Pension Fund Assets in Bulgaria Rise 16.8% Year-on-Year to EUR 17.254 Bln at End-June, BNB Says

Assets of pension funds in Bulgaria reached EUR 17.254 billion at the end of June 2026, up 16.8% from a year earlier, according to Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) data, published on Wednesday. Debt securities remained the largest component of pension fund assets, at EUR 9.989 billion, although their share of total assets declined from a year earlier. Holdings of shares and other equity instruments rose by 37.8% to EUR 3.209 billion, while investment fund and money market fund holdings increased by 52.8% to EUR 2.931 billion. Assets invested in Bulgaria rose by 9.2% year-on-year to EUR 5.168 billion. Investments with other euro area residents increased by 21.1% to EUR 6.336 billion, while assets in other countries and international organizations grew by 27.6% to EUR 3.481 billion. Pension entitlements, which accounted for 99.5% of pension fund liabilities, stood at EUR 17.176 billion at the end of June, up 16.8% year-on-year.
