Pittsburg police station shooting suspect expected in court

A man accused of shooting a Pittsburg police officer inside police headquarters last week is expected to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon. Police Chief Phil Galer said the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Michael Sanchez Gardner Martin, concealed a gun in his clothing after an arresting officer failed to find it during two searches. Martin was arrested Thursday afternoon on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle and other outstanding felony warrants, according to police. He was taken to police headquarters and placed in a holding cell. Police said Martin told Officer Jimmy Sanchez, who was not involved in the arrest or searches, that he was not feeling well and needed water. Martin allegedly had the gun concealed beneath a blanket draped over his shoulders when Sanchez brought him water, according to police.
