SJC Should Be Elected through Trust, Not Fear, Prosecutors' Association in Bulgaria Says

The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) should be elected through trust, not fear, the Association of Prosecutors in Bulgaria (APB) said on Tuesday in a position distributed to the media regarding “information about pressure on prosecutors and administrative heads in connection with the upcoming SJC election.” The allegations concern threats of disciplinary and career-related measures, removal from office, media attacks and “compromising information” in case of refusal to provide support, as well as promises of appointments, promotions and management positions in exchange for support. The association also cited claims of support from ministers, political forces, institutions and media circles aimed at creating an impression of influence and a predetermined election result.
