Campaign to boost voter turnout in Stockholm suburb as participation falls

Voter turnout fell in the last Swedish elections in 2022, particularly in areas facing socioeconomic challenges. In Botkyrka, in southwestern Stockholm, turnout fell from 78 to 71 percent, one of the biggest declines in Sweden. Local voter information officers are now trying to encourage more residents to vote, despite the local municipality cutting funding for democracy initiatives.
