Culture Ministry Says No Breaches of Key Boyana Studios Privatization Obligations Found through 2024

The Culture Ministry is closely monitoring developments concerning Boyana Studios because of its importance to the Bulgarian film industry, the Ministry said in a position on Tuesday. The Ministry said it had received official information on August 28 from the Public Enterprises and Control Agency (PECA), which is responsible by law for post-privatization supervision of the January 24, 2006 agreement for the sale of 95% of the capital of Boyana Film EAD. According to PECA, its completed reviews covering the reporting periods from November 11, 2006 to November 10, 2024 found no failure to comply with the main obligations under the privatization agreement. These include commitments concerning the investment programme, preservation of the company's scope of activity, a requirement that at least 80% of revenue come from the agreed activities, restrictions on the disposal of real estate and obligations related to film production.
