Evangelos Marinakis has sacked Olympiacos manager Jose Luis Mendilibar just seven matches into the new season. The departing boss becomes the 25th manager dismissed by the Greek businessman, who also owns Nottingham Forest and Rio Ave, in 16 years. Mendilibar has been sacked by Olympiacos seven matches into the new season Getty Mendilibar has been dismissed despite not losing a match inside 90 minutes so far this season. However, he has paid the price for Olympiacos’ failure to reach the league phase of the Champions League. His side were beaten on aggregate by NEC in the third qualifying round after an extra-time defeat in the second leg. Despite an unbeaten start domestically in the league and cup, Mendilibar was sacked after Tuesday’s 3-2 win over Volos. Reports claim Imanol Alguacil will be appointed as the next Olympiacos manager. The former Real Sociedad boss is available after leaving Al Shabab in February. Alguacil previously won the Copa del Rey during his time with Sociedad.
