Want to jump into the Chicago River? Here's your sanctioned opportunity

Have you ever felt tempted to jump into the Chicago River? The city is offering an opportunity to do just that, without the risk of legal trouble. City officials announced on Tuesday that they’re bringing back The Big Jump event as a precursor to the second annual Chicago River Swim. The Big Jump is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 18, and swimmers are set to take their marks for the Chicago River Swim at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20. In addition to the reemergence of The Big Jump, city officials also announced the Chicago River Swim would allow up to 750 qualified swimmers to register — a large jump from last year’s total of 263 participants . “The Chicago River belongs to all of Chicago, and The Big Jump is a powerful way to celebrate how far our city has come,” said Mayor Brandon Johnson. “For generations, Chicagoans have worked to restore this river and reconnect our communities to it.
