Two Consecutive Earthquakes Registered in Western Greece

Two consecutive earthquakes with magnitudes of 4.5 and 4.4 on the Richter scale were registered on Tuesday morning in the Aitoliko region, Western Greece, said Greek media, citing the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre. The tremors struck one minute apart, the first at 10:45 AM and the second at 10:46 AM local time. The epicenter of the earthquake was in the area between Aitoliko and Agrinio but the tremors were also felt in other parts of the Aetolia-Acarnania region. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre the focal depth of the first earthquake was 11 kilometers, while the second was at five kilometers. The Greek Institute of Geodynamics also measured the second earthquake at a magnitude of 4.4, although different seismological centres report slight variations in the depth data.
