Trapped-ion quantum computer JION was inaugurated September 3, 2026 at the Julich Supercomputing Centre, becoming the first gate-based trapped-ion system integrated into a major supercomputing facility. Developed by eleQtron using microwave qubit control rather than lasers, JION connects to JUPITER, one of Europe's fastest supercomputers.
