Parliament Elects Zdravko Shushkov as Deputy Governor of NHIF

The National Assembly elected Zdravko Shushkov as deputy governor of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), with a term running until November 30, 2028. He was nominated for the position by the parliamentary group of Progressive Bulgaria on August 13 this year. Shushkov's nomination was approved by 114 votes in favour, with 54 MPs voting against and two abstaining. Shushkov was supported by 114 MPs from Progressive Bulgaria. Those voting against included 25 MPs from GERB-UDF, 13 from Democratic Bulgaria, five from Continue the Change and 11 from Vazrazhdane. Two MPs from Democratic Bulgaria abstained. The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) did not take part in the vote. Earlier, MPs elected Dr. Vladimir Daskalov as governor of the NHIF. According to the published report presenting the candidate's biography, Zdravko Shushkov graduated from the Technical University of Sofia with a degree in Automotive Engineering and obtained a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1997.
