A Boca Raton man facing trial for first-degree murder took the witness stand in a Broward courtroom Wednesday to admit that he did fire the fatal shot, but he did so in self-defense. The killing of real estate agent Sara Trost on Dec. 23, 2022, was first reported as a case of mistaken identity. Raymond Reese, now 56, called 911 to report that he had shot his landlord outside the home he vacated in the 5700 block of Northwest 48th Court in Coral Springs. At the time, he said he was angry at his landlord, whom he had never met in person, because she was in the process of evicting him. On Wednesday, Reese told a different story during a hearing seeking to dismiss the case on a “stand-your-ground” argument. He said he drove up to the house on Dec. 23 and saw a white Jeep sticking out of the driveway. He attempted to drive past it but, in his words, he accidentally clipped the front of the vehicle.
