Alexander Donski's debut in a grand slam tennis tournament was crowned with success. On Friday, the 28-year-old Bulgarian and Jan Choinski of Britain defeated home representatives Martin Damm and Mackenzie McDonald 7-6(5) 6-4 in 1 hour and 36 minutes in the first round of the men's doubles at the US Open in New York. Donski and Choinski entered the main draw following the withdrawal of Alejandro Tabilo (Chile) and Diego Hidalgo (Ecuador). Donski reached the biggest stage in tennis at a time when he is enjoying the strongest period of his career in doubles. He is ranked 90th on the ATP doubles list, which is also a new career high for him. He has been a long-standing member of Bulgaria's Davis Cup team.
