At its regular meeting on Wednesday, the Council of Ministers authorized a derogation from the restrictive measures imposed in response to Russia’s actions destabilizing the situation in Ukraine, the government said in a press release. The derogation will allow the National Electricity Company (NEK) to launch a public procurement procedure and conclude a contract with the Bulgarian branch of Atomstroyexport, a joint-stock company. The contract will cover technical supervision of the re-preservation of equipment supplied for Units 1 and 2 of the Belene Nuclear Power Plant. The derogation is necessary because the manufacturers of the equipment, JSC AEM-Technology, PJSC Izhorskiye Zavody and JSC ZIO-Podolsk, have granted Atomstroyexport exclusive rights to provide technical supervision of these activities.
