Memorial Service for Ratko Mladic Held in Belgrade on Saturday

A memorial service for Ratko Mladic, who was convicted for the 1995 Srebrenica genocide, was held in Belgrade on Saturday in the presence of Serbian Justice Minister Nenad Vujic and officials from the Bosnian Republika Srpska. The ceremony marked the first official farewell to Mladic and followed his death at the prison hospital in The Hague on August 27. In attendance were President of Republika Srpska Sinisa Karan, Minister of Interior Zeljko Budimir and Minister of Labour, War Veterans and Disabled Persons Radan Ostojic. Among the officials was former Serbian prime minister Nikola Sainovic who headed the government during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina and was convicted by the International Criminal Tribunal in The Hague for the mass killings of Albanian civilians in May 1999. Ratko Mladic's son, Darko Mladic, invited his father's friends to attend the funeral on September 7.
