Investigation launched after MTA worker killed by D train near Yankee Stadium in Bronx

A Brooklyn family is grieving after a beloved mother and grandmother was killed by a New York City subway train while on the job for the MTA. Moet McCullum was working underground on the tracks at the 161st Street-Yankee Stadium station Thursday, on what was supposed to be a routine night on the job. The 41-year-old was a construction flagger, tasked with warning oncoming train operators of active work zones, according to the Transport Workers Union (TWU). Around 11:30 p.m., a southbound D train struck and killed McCullum. It was not clear if the train operator saw any warning flags or lights. “Everyone was in compliance. Everyone had their protective, their equipment, their flashlight…their vest, the lamps,” said TWU Local 100 Vice President Chris Drummond. The union and the MTA were cooperating with an investigation launched by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
