Preliminary Boston totals for the Norfolk and Suffolk state-senate district, in which Persis Yu will replace Mike Rush as senator, show that Yu won Rush's homebase of Ward 20, with 4,810 votes to his 4,110, on the strength of her margins on the Roslindale side of the ward, 4,810 to 4,110. Rush did win most of the precincts on the West Roxbury side of the ward, save precinct 11, around Anawan Avenue and Stratford Street, which Yu took 179-146, but his margins in general were smaller than Yu's on the Roslindale side. For example, she won precinct 2, which runs along Belgrade Avenue and Birch Street into Roslindale Square, 477-129 - and she took the neighboring precinct 4, between Roslindale Square and the Arboretum, 432-98. In Yu's home Ward 18 - Hyde Park and part of Roslindale - she won 5,780 to 3,268.
