Faith leaders detained amid ICE raids targeting Haitians

Faith leaders in Ohio said that “ Springfield is under siege ” after raids by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested more than 40 Haitians in the Ohio city, including two pastors. Pastor Gilbert Joubert Adrien was detained at a gas station on Aug. 20, the Ohio Capital Journal reports. Another unnamed pastor from the First Haitian Evangelical Church of Springfield was detained last week and might already be out of the country . Religious leaders in the community are calling for their release. “Pastor Joubert Adrien left Haiti because his life was in danger, served Christ and his congregation faithfully and his arrest shows how far ICE will stoop to incite panic among people who came here peacefully, came here legally and offered nothing but good to our community,” said Carl Ruby, pastor of Springfield’s Central Christian Church, in a statement .
