Wife found dead after couple goes missing on hike in New Jersey

The search for a missing couple came to a heartbreaking end in New Jersey. Police in Montville Township a large search operation began Monday after officials located an empty car in the parking lot of Pyramid Mountain belonging to Virginia Taetzch and John Higgins. The search began around 10 p.m. and lasted until 4 a.m. when weather forced officials to briefly suspended efforts until later on Tuesday morning. More than 30 officers resumed the search after 9 a.m. and within a couple of hours located Higgins, 77, and transported him to Morristown Memorial Hospital. A short time later, they found Taetzch, 87, who was pronounced dead in the park. “Our multi-agency Search and Rescue operation successfully saved one life, while sadly recovering a deceased individual. Our deepest condolences and prayers are with the families during this difficult time, and we thank all agencies involved for their dedicated efforts,” Morris County Sheriff James Gannon said in a statement.
