How carbon dioxide pollution depletes nutrients from food

Most of us know about major effects of carbon dioxide pollution, including global warming and extreme weather. The impact on our food may be less well known. Research shows excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere depletes nutrients in some crops, meaning you could eat the same meal someone ate decades ago but not get the same nutrient levels. As part of our Changing Climate series , News4 spoke with Dr. Samuel Myers, who directs the Institute for Planetary Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Our conversation was edited for length. Talk to us about what carbon dioxide increases are doing to nutrients in our food.
