During a meeting between Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev and the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) Executive Director, Hans Leijtens, Demerdzhiev said that the security of Bulgaria's borders and the measures Bulgaria is implementing could serve as a model for the entire European Union. The two agreed that Frontex should support Member States even more actively in the fight against illegal migration and new security threats, the Interior Ministry press service reported on Tuesday. Demerdzhiev stated that it is essential to achieve a uniform standard of security at the external borders that works for the benefit of the EU. He added that the entire community must be prepared to respond to new security challenges, including countering threats arising from the incursion of unmanned aerial vehicles.
