Govt to continue with Wang Chi buyout plan

The government confirmed on Thursday that it would continue to acquire the only block that was not directly hit by the inferno at Wang Fuk Court, as more than three-quarters of homeowners have reportedly signed a formal sale and purchase agreement. As of Wednesday, about 75.8 percent of Wang Chi House owners, or 188 households had signed the Agreement for Sale and Purchase. A Housing Bureau spokesman said the government would "sign the assignment with its owners progressively to complete the relevant procedures on title acquisition". They were among the 99.3 percent of the Tai Po estate homeowners – or 1,971 units – who accepted the buyout offer that expired on Monday 5pm, including those who delivered their acceptance letters by mail that were postmarked on or before August 31. The spokesman added the government had signed the agreement with 1,595 of them as of Wednesday. Edited by Tony Sabine
