Regional Development Minister Vows Faster Construction of Hemus Motorway

Construction of the Hemus Motorway will soon continue at a completely different pace. "We are looking at ways for it to reach Veliko Tarnovo within the next two and a half years," said Regional Development and Public Works Minister Ivan Shishkov, speaking to reporters on Tuesday during an inspection of construction work on Hemus Section 4 in Pleven Region. Shishkov commented on the investigations related to the construction and financing of the Hemus Motorway. He said that the entire motorway is currently "in the prosecutor's hands". "This concerns illegal construction carried out in 2021 and paid for in 2026 using documents stating that the work had been completed in the relevant year. However, this will not stop construction of the motorway. One of the reasons for my inspection today is to see the illegal structures that were built. I am preparing amendments to the Spatial Development Act so that all these illegal construction projects, which were allowed to take place at some point,
