California has roughly half a million Muslims. There are over 12 million Catholics in California, yet schools have no similar authorization to celebrate the religious significance of Christmas, Easter or Good Friday. There are a million and half Jews but no Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur state holidays. Public schools would be allowed to close and hold exercises “acknowledging and celebrating” those days. State workers would also get holiday credit as well
