Javor Gardev's "The Bacchae" Brings Athens Audience to Its Feet Again

Euripides’ The Bacchae, directed by Bulgaria's Javor Gardev, once again brought the audience to its feet on Sunday at the Lycabettus Theatre in Athens, Greece. Spectators who came to see the performance at the open-air theatre on Lycabettus Hill, gave a standing ovation to the cast and musicians at the end of the show. The performance was another stop on the production’s summer tour in Greece. Following the Athens performance, the tour continues on September 2 at the Ancient Theatre of Philippi as part of the Philippi Festival in Kavala. The final announced performance of the Greek tour is scheduled for September 4 at the Theatro Gis in Thessaloniki. The Greek tour began with two premiere performances at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus on July 10 and 11, included in the programme of the Athens Epidaurus Festival.
