Caltrans announced Saturday the reopening of a 10-mile stretch of Highway 1 in Monterey County following support of the Timber Fire emergency response. Authorities said the stretch was opened as of 1 p.m. Caltrans warns drivers to be cautious or use Highway 101 as an alternative route. According to Cal Fire, the Timber Fire in Monterey County burned 7,591 acres and was 29% contained as of Saturday. According to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, the evacuation order for MRY-F027-B was downgraded to an evacuation warning, zone MRY-F028 was divided into zones A, B, C, and D; MRY-F028-A, which includes areas west of Partington Bridge, was downgraded to an evacuation warning. Authorities said the zone MRY-F028-C remains under evacuation order and zone MRY-F029 was upgraded to an evacuation order.
