Metra trains in the north suburbs were stopped Friday afternoon with ‘extensive’ delays possible after a crash between a freight train and a vehicle, with emergency crews and multiple police cars on the scene. The Lake Forest Police Department posted about the crash just before 12 p.m., with train traffic stopped at Old Mill and Waukegan Roads. “Please avoid the area and use an alternate route while emergency crews respond and the scene is cleared,” the police department said. Mike Lorber, reporting from above the crash on Sky5, said Old Mill Road and Everett Roads were closed west of Waukegan as part of the crash investigation. Video and photos from the scene showed multiple police vehicles along the road near the train tracks. On the other side of the train, a damaged white vehicle could be seen.
