Authorities reached out to the public Thursday for help in tracking down a man suspected of assaulting an ex-girlfriend of his last week in a neighborhood near Carmel Mountain Ranch Open Space Park, gravely injuring her. Jeronimo Cedillo, 38, allegedly forced entry to a home in the 14100 block of Brighton Avenue in Poway shortly before 3 a.m. on Aug. 11 and attacked 43-year-old Azucena Gonzalez Martinez with an undisclosed type of weapon. Initially, authorities originally reported that Gonzalez Martinez was attacked with a hammer. Cedillo, who also goes by Geronimo, is described as a man with brown eyes and black hair, standing 5 feet, 7 inches tall, and weighing 200 pounds. Cedillo fled prior to the arrival of deputies, who found the woman suffering from severe trauma, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
