A small dog is assumed to be dead after it was grabbed from a north suburban yard by a coyote and dragged into a wooded area, police warned. On Thursday afternoon, the dog was taken from a yard near the Tangley Oaks apartments, located at 241 Leeds Ct. in Lake Bluff, police said. Authorities searched the area but were unable to find the dog. It is believed that this was the first time authorities received a report of a coyote taking a dog in Lake Bluff, police said, and officers are working with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to document the incident. “Coyotes are a natural part of our region, and seeing one does not necessarily indicate a threat to people or pets. However, this incident is an important reminder to take precautions, particularly with small pets,” Lake Bluff police said in a statement.
