Ground stop issued for O'Hare Airport due to storms Friday evening

A ground stop was issued for flights arriving at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on Friday evening as a round of storms approached the region. The Federal Aviation Administration said the ground stop would be in place through 6:30 p.m., with flights being held at their departure airports. Flights departing O’Hare were also experiencing an average delay of 45 minutes. The FAA said it expects to transition to a Ground Delay Program from a ground stop – but weather delays were causing a ripple effect, leading to both backed-up taxiways and crowded gates.
