Perimenopause and menopause, normal transitions that impact people who menstruate as hormone levels begin to fall off, might be more disruptive to the work lives of those experiencing symptoms than previously thought. Perimenopause and menopause often come with a variety of symptoms, like hot flashes, anxiety, sleep disruptions, and brain fog. And, unfortunately, they don’t only show up after work hours—giving people who experience them an often challenging inconvenience to navigate at the office. According to a new survey of 831 employed women age 45 and over from Womea, a midlife medicine platform, the large majority of people experiencing the transitions say their symptoms show up at work: In fact, a staggering 87% say that perimenopause or menopause symptoms have directly disrupted their job performance over the last year.
