A dog in South Jersey is being monitored for the next few weeks after getting into a fight with a rabid skunk, according to the Camden County Department of Public Health. This all unfolded on Aug. 14, 2026, when the dog and the skunk got into a fight in the dog’s backyard in Cherry Hill, officials said. An animal control officer was able to capture the skunk and took it for rabies testing, officials explained. The test results came back as positive on Aug. 19, health officials reported. Although the dog’s family was able to provide proof of rabies vaccination, the dog was given a booster and is being confined and monitored for the next 45 days, according to officials.
