A Lake Michigan miracle happened on Monday when a diver recovered a man’s wedding ring that slipped off his finger while he applied sunscreen during the Chicago Air and Water Show. Mike Lang, a Chicago photographer, said the ring slipped off his finger, bounced off the bow of his boat and into the depths of Lake Michigan while he was out on the water to see the thrilling performances on Sunday. “I felt it fly off and I heard the noise, ‘ting,’ your ring hitting fiberglass,” Lang said. “And it immediately went into the lake, down 26 feet.” He was about a mile offshore from North Avenue Beach when the ring went for a swim. Lang thought the ring was gone forever, until he remembered his friend Yohei Yamada once famously recovered a ring lost in Belmont Harbor for Cubs player Anthony Rizzo. “I took coordinates of where I was,” Lang explained, and said he knew the “one person to call” was Yamada.
