9-year-old boy taken to trauma center after being hit by driver in Santa Rosa

A driver struck a 9-year-old boy as he was crossing a street in Santa Rosa Tuesday night, leaving him with significant injuries, police said. The collision happened at about 8:30 p.m. along the 900 block of Yulupa Avenue, according to police. The child was crossing Yulupa Avenue when he was hit by a 41-year-old Santa Rosa man driving a white Ford Mustang, police said. Investigators believe the boy was in a marked crosswalk when he was struck. They were working to determine if the crosswalk lights were activated at the time. The boy suffered significant injuries and was taken to a regional trauma center by ambulance, police said. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to police. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have played a role in the collision. It wasn’t immediately known how fast the driver was going at the time. An investigation is underway.
