81-year-old woman shot inside Delaware home, police searching for shooter

An 81-year-old woman was hospitalized after being shot while inside a home in New Castle County, Delaware, police said. According to New Castle County Police, just after 2 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 17, 2026, officers were called to Rose Lane in the community of Rosegate after receiving multiple reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, police said officers found that a home had been struck by gunfire and that an 81-year-old woman inside had suffered a gunshot wound to her lower body. Police said the woman was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for her injuries. She was listed in stable condition. At the scene, police said officers found that an unoccupied vehicle parked on the street had also been struck by gunfire.
