Did you hear tornado sirens go off overnight across the Chicago suburbs under perfectly calm skies? In the quiet of the night, many in DuPage County were woken up about 3 a.m. Tuesday to tornado sirens blaring across multiple communities. Many took to the mystery to social media, wondering if others heard the sound too. In a post on X, the National Weather Service in Chicago said nothing had been triggered on their end. We have no idea as nothing was triggered from our office. We are hearing this may have been countywide per several other people. — NWS Chicago (@NWSChicago) August 18, 2026 Shortly after the sirens went off, agencies across DuPage County began posting that the sirens were an accident. “We are aware of the siren activation at 0300 hours and understand that there may be questions and concerns regarding what occurred,” DuPage Public Safety Communications said in a Facebook post just before 4 a.m. “An official statement will be shared when additional details are confirmed.”
