Owners of dogs that weigh over 20 kilogrammes have been urged to keep their pets on a leash no longer than two metres when in public. The appeal by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals came after an unleashed 60-kilo dog attacked and killed two small canines in the space of 20 minutes in Yuen Long on Monday. Narelle Pamuk, founder of the Sai Kung Stray Friends Foundation, also urged dog owners to act more responsibly, saying dogs should stay on a leash at all time in public places. She said people should not really try to jump into a dog fight – and there’s not much they can do in emergencies. “Try and grab something that's nearby, like if there's a chair or some kind of pot plant or ideally the best is a hose. If there is a hose, you can spray on them, that usually separates them. There is another way of pulling the dog's tail.
