Several arrests were made in Miami-Dade County after deputies busted a ring of people accused of selling fake handicapped parking permits, authorities said. According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, 11 people were arrested during “Operation Parking Denied.” Deputies said that the investigation started after an audit by the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office identified several disabled parking permit applications that were suspected of having been gotten fraudulently. During their investigation, detectives uncovered a scheme where brokers allegedly helped with the fraud by giving applicants disability certification forms with forged physician signatures. After getting those forms, they were then submitted to get disabled parking placards. The permits were sold for $200 each. Detectives said that in those forms, there were names of several physicians who never treated or certified the individuals who were listed.
