A woman is heading to prison after she pleaded guilty on Monday to a murder charge in the fatal shooting of her ex-boyfriend in Hialeah back in 2020 . Karina Corbalan pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the March 2, 2020 shooting of Alexis Sanchez. In exchange, she was sentenced to 25 years in state prison followed by 10 years of probation. Corbalan, who turns 30 on Thursday, had been facing a mandatory life sentence if she’d been convicted at trial. During the hearing, she was allowed to speak to the victim’s family. “I loved Alejandro Sanchez. I am sorry,” she said. “I am sorry. I never wanted to hurt him.” Sanchez, who was 28 at the time, was shot multiple times near the 5600 block of West 21st Street. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died. Neighbors said Sanchez, known as Coco to his family, was sitting in front of his home when Corbalan opened fire.
