Kapitan Andreevo Border Crossing to Expand Capacity by 25% Under EUR 43 Mln-Plus Upgrade

Reconstruction and modernization have started at the Kapitan Andreevo crossing at Bulgaria's border with Turkiye, with the project set to increase the capacity of the border pass by 25% by significantly expanding the number of lanes for trucks and passenger vehicles, the head of the checkpoint, Georgi Gospodinov, said on Tuesday. Gospodinov and Marina Ganeva, a representative of the contractor Glavbolgarstroy, officially announced the start of the works. The reconstruction will cost EUR 43.55 million, excluding VAT. It will be carried out in three stages and will take 12 months. Traffic will not be stopped during the works, Gospodinov said. Kapitan Andreevo is one of the busiest and strategically important land border crossing points in the European Union. More than one million trucks pass through it each year, Gospodinov told reporters.
