Unexploded ordnance discovered near kilometre 376 of the Bulgarian section of the Danube River, in the Silistra region, was rendered safe by servicemembers from a military unit in Shumen, under the command of Major Angel Ivanov, the Defence Ministry reported on August 17. Two mortar bombs, measuring 30 cm in diameter, and three cannonballs, measuring 10 cm and 15 cm in diameter, were transported to the Divdyadovo Training Centre and destroyed there, with strict safety measures in place. The servicemembers acted on the orders of the Chief of Defence, Admiral Emil Eftimov, and under an order issued by the Commander of the Land Forces, Major General Deyan Deshkov. Late last week, military personnel had also rendered safe four artillery shells of the cannonball type found at the same location, the Defence Ministry said.
