Meteorite Weighing 1 Kg Found in Balkan Range near Montana

A meteorite weighing over 1 kilogram was discovered in the Balkan Range near Montana, BTA learned from Kiril Stamenov, Chairman of the Bulgarian Association of Prospectors for Native Gold and Meteorites. The find was presented to the public during the National Gathering of Gold Prospectors and Metal Detecting Enthusiasts, held on August 15 in the Ledenika area near Vratsa, he explained. The object was located using a metal detector at a depth of about 65 centimetres in the roots of a tree, Stamenov explained. Initial analyses indicate a high nickel content, which is one of the key indicators of extraterrestrial origin. The find is set to undergo detailed laboratory testing, certification, and the process of being listed in the official meteorite bulletins of the Global Meteorite Association.
