New Director of Sofia Waste Treatment Plant Prepares Two-Year Modernization Plan

Newly appointed Sofia Waste Treatment Plant Director Yulian Daskalov is preparing a two-year modernization plan for the facility, Sofia Municipality said Monday. The plan will include upgrades to key systems and equipment and a long-term solution for managing and storing the refuse-derived fuel (RDF) produced at the plant. It follows an inspection by the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water (RIEW) in Sofia that identified violations at the facility. “The plant has operated continuously for more than a decade, and some of its equipment naturally requires major upgrades. This is an expected stage in the life cycle of such an industrial facility and requires planned investment. We are now preparing a two-year modernization plan,” Daskalov said. The plan and the required investments will be made public once finalized, the municipality said.
