Police, community leaders establish safety plans ahead of possible “takeover” of Dyckman Street

Government officials joined community leaders, business owners, and residents of Inwood in Upper Manhattan to discuss response plans for the event called “Dyckman Takeover 3” on social media. They allege that it is a gathering of young people similar to the one that occurred after the Dominican National Day Parade on Sunday, August 9. Following the end of the parade on Sixth Avenue, thousands flooded Dyckman Street and the surrounding area, clogging traffic and vandalizing businesses. The first time was after the Dominican Day Parade in the Bronx. Councilwoman Carmen De La Rosa sent a strong message on Friday. “We will not tolerate you treating our community the way we saw last Sunday, where there were hundreds of thousands of dollars of damage to our cars in the community, to our small business owners and even a young man lost his life,” De La Rosa said.
