Brush fire burns in SW Miami-Dade, bringing hazy conditions to West Kendall area

A brush fire is burning Friday in Southwest Miami-Dade, bringing the smell of smoke and hazy conditions to the area. The Trail fire has burned 25 acres and was 80% contained as of Thursday evening, according to the Florida Forest Service. The fire is burning in the Everglades east of Krome Avenue, closer to residential areas than fires in the past months. Residents west of Florida’s Turnpike near Kendall Drive will be able to smell the smoke in the air. No injuries or damages have been reported. Dry conditions have provided kindling for the fire, NBC6 meteorologist Chelsea Ambriz reports. The fire is burning where South Florida is down more than a foot of rain. The fire is also leaving behind stagnant smoke because of the light wind. The calm conditions will pick up between 5 to 10 mph as the day goes on to help push the smoke north and west, away from the metro areas. But until the wind picks up, the smoke will linger.
