Thousands of dead fish leave some Jersey Shore residents dealing with stench

Thousands of dead fish have been found in a lagoon at the Jersey Shore. Little Egg Harbor Township residents said dead peanut bunker began appearing within the past couple of days and have since filled the water. “It’s like going into a dead fish factory that’s been closed for probably about 5 or 6 days. It’s atrocious,” Little Egg Harbor Township resident Michael Wuss told NBC10. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection is not investigating the die-off, according to a DEP spokesman. He said warm water temperatures, poor circulation and large groups of fish can create low-oxygen conditions that cause fish to die. Residents said this is the fourth fish die-off in local lagoons so far this summer. The smell is reportedly so bad residents have been keeping their windows and doors closed. “It really needs to be dredged.
