Signs to look out for to spot a fake job offer and avoid a recruiter scam

An unsolicited job offer can be tempting, especially when the position sounds like a dream job. But for one NBC10 employee, the offer sounded familiar for an unusual reason: It was essentially the job she already had. NBC10 Senior Digital Director Marilyn Vaca received messages on LinkedIn from a supposed recruiter about a position with her employer, NBCUniversal. The job description closely matched the work she already does. “I was, like, shocked because this is my employer, NBC Universal, and the job description was my job, what I do now,” Vaca said. Vaca shared the messages with NBC10 Responds to warn others who receive job offers online that may sound too good to be true. “I was like, oh my gosh, I want this job. I mean, this is like my dream job, but unfortunately it doesn’t exist. It’s not real,” Vaca said.
