Bulgarian and Romanian border police have detained a truck carrying irregular migrants at the Vidin-Calafat crossing, the Border Police said on Thursday. On August 12, a truck driven by a 31-year-old Turkish national arrived at the bridge in Vidin to leave Bulgaria. During a physical inspection of the cargo compartment, Bulgarian and Romanian border police found 18 foreign nationals, all men - nine from Iraq, three from Syria and six from Iran. Three of the Iraqi nationals had been detained earlier this month while attempting to cross the Bulgarian-Turkish border illegally and had been issued compulsory administrative measures for their return to their country of origin. The driver and the migrants were detained at the Vidin Border Police Department. The Regional Prosecution Office was notified, and work on the case is continuing.
