Bulgarian News Agency Restores, Illuminates BTA Forest Sign near Rila Monastery

The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) has restored and illuminated the sign for "Forest of the Bulgarian News Agency" above the town of Rila using solar-powered lights. The lettering on the restored sign uses BTA’s LIK font. This took place on the eve of the launch of the August issue of of the Agency's LIK magazine, dedicated to St. John of Rila and the Rila Monastery he founded. This year marks the saint's 1,080th death anniversary and 1,150 years since 876, the year in which he is believed to have been born. On April 11, 2018, as part of Forest Week, BTA journalists and then-Director General Maxim Minchev (1953-2020) planted 120 saplings of fruit-bearing tree species: wild cherry, apple, and plum. The planting took place along the Krasta nature trail. Legend has it that St. John of Rila, the patron saint of the Bulgarian people and founder of the Rila Monastery, once walked along this trail.
