NJ State Police use 3-D modeling of skull to put a face to 44-year-old cold case

More than four decades after skeletal remains were discovered in a marsh off Brigantine’s south end, investigators in NJ are using new technology in hopes of finally giving the unidentified man a name. The New Jersey State Police Forensic Imaging Unit produced new composite sketches depicting what the man likely looked like when he died between 1981 and 1982. A clammer found his remains in May 1982. “It’s extremely important to solve these cases,” Brigantine Police Lt. John Glasser said. The case marked the first time New Jersey State Police used its own 3-D printing capability to build a replica of an unidentified person’s skull. Using the replica along with forensic anthropology, dental evidence and traditional artistry, Detective Sgt. Moises Martinez reconstructed the man’s face and created detailed drawings of his likely appearance. “Using a combination of all three really helped us in this situation,” Martinez said. “They definitely speed up the process.
