Argentine asylum seeker released by ICE one month after she was detained at PHL

An Argentine woman who was living in South Philadelphia when she was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at Philadelphia International Airport last month has been released and is on her way back to Philly, her boyfriend, Steven Mechiorre, said. Iliana Lick, 30, came to the United States from Argentina in 2023 on a tourist visa that was later extended. Her attorney said she was waiting for an asylum interview with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services when she was arrested on July 11 at Philadelphia International Airport. Her bond was set at $10,000 and she was released from a detention center in New Mexico on Monday, Aug. 10, Mechiorre said. Lick was staying at a hotel in El Paso on Monday night and was expected to fly back to Philadelphia on Tuesday. “While there is still one more step before she is finally home, today marks an enormous victory.
